Aquatic Tales presents three films, one by Tanja Engelberts that merge elements of documentary, fiction and abstraction, with water and aquatic life as central elements. The night journeys from a microscopic view of microorganisms living in the Oslo Fjord, hidden to the naked human eye; to an encounter with algae in Roman baths, laboratories and a glass of water; finally zooming out to the violent destruction of oil and gas platforms that have been lifted from the sea. The films reflect upon our relationship with water and thereby express a critical view on industrial and capitalist practices that distance us from nature.
This film night is part of the public programme of Still Waters Run Deep, an exhibition about the interaction between humans and water curated by Marlies Augustijn, taking place from 26 June until 7 August 2022 at MACA’s neighbour Nieuw Dakota (go to website for more information).
MACA is a new creative workspace for filmmakers and audiovisual artists. An inspirational space for the film and AV community to meet, learn and share work and knowhow.
The MACA warehouse, situated at the NDSM Wharf by the IJ river in Amsterdam Noord, has opened its doors while they are working on the finishing touch of the workshop area. Their warehouse is available for renting work- and event spaces. Also, MACA hosts public as well as community-based workshops, screenings, and exhibitions.
