Centraal Museum Utrecht — Jaya Pelupessy

UTRECHT LOKAAL

4 December 2021 – 13 February 2022

With his work, Jaya Pelupessy responds to the rapid flow of images with which we daily communicate via different (digital) media. We use them in the everyday through countless reproductions of moments, experiences, and cultures. In photos, installations, and now for the first time in 16mm film, he looks for a certain delay and a different understanding of the image. For example, Pelupessy developed a new photographic technique, in which he approached the traditional technique of screen printing in his own unique way. The screen printing frame, which is usually the instrument for printing an image, becomes the artwork in the hands of Pelupessy himself. It is typical of his working method in which the making process itself – and its analysis – becomes the end result.

Jaya Pelupessy won the KF Heinstipendium in 2020, which is awarded every two years and is intended for visual artists and designers from the province of Utrecht.
