Book presentation Witho Worms — Fantastik Fangst

Saturday May 14, 15-16 hrs

Presented by publisher Bijzondere Boeken Brigade

The book Fantastik Fangst is comprised of one negative, separated and divided in different grid formations. The first four pages are composed of a 2 x 2 grid, then 3 x 3, and so on until a 7 x 7 has been formed from the one negative. Every page is unique, and the full negative is shown in full 6 times when taking these grids into account. The final showing of the image is in the limited edition print that accompanies the book.

The subjects of the photograph are the heads of Norwegian cod called Skrei — they reside in the Barents Sea. Once a year, these fish swim to the sea near the Lofoten, an archipelago close to the Norwegian coast. At the end of January, millions of fish return after traveling 500 miles to spawn on their native soil.

Thursday May 12, 17.00 – 21.00
Friday May 13, 12.00 – 18.00

Around the polar circle is a duo-exhibition that brings together photographic projects of Witho Worms and Jens Knigge, depicting the Nordic landscape. Worms photographed in Norway, Knigge — in Norway and Iceland. They work with similar tools: large format cameras and handcrafted prints deploying 19th century techniques. Worms’ contact prints of 30×50 cm are made of 3 overlaying coatings of black pigments and ink, and Knigge’s photographs are platinum-palladium prints on hand coated paper. During The artist is present both photographers will be available to explain their work and answer any questions.
